Stay in tune with the wonderful events and things in the community that AASU has going on this semester!

FALL 2018

In order to kick off the semester and to celebrate the first home game of the Football Season, AASU, in partnership with ASA (African Student Association), and the Lambda Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., decided to throw a cookout/tailgate with food, fellowship, and music!

On Sunday, March 18th and March 25th, AASU helped high school students prepare for the ACT. We offered testing strategies, advice, and tools for the students to be successful on the exam! AASU strives not only to sew into the current Georgia Tech community but also the future leaders in the community.

This semester AASU decided to partner with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in doing free HIV testing and contraceptives for students and faculty on campus. Both AASU and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. wanted to approach the sensitive topic by encouraging students and faculty to practice safe sex and understand their status whether they are currently sexually active or not.

Instead of just talking it as a day off of school, AASU in conjunction with several other organizations and students from Georgia Tech's Campus wanted to make MLK Day a day of service to the community. AASU's specific project was the West Atlanta Land Trust, and it was definitely a service project that made AASU's members and Executive Board get their hands dirty. Volunteers cleaned up and resurfaced a community garden in the 4th Ward area , not too far from Georgia Tech's Campus grounds. It was not only an amazing experience to give back to a community that inherently does not have much, but it was a way for several students to connect with each other over a day that commemorates the passion and service that Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. put into this exact community.
